The paintings are evocative and serene, the sounds mingle with the paint, there are the memories of the suburb intermingled with memories of mornings down on the Parramatta River.
“I start with a memory of the river and start overpainting until the literal references disappear, I repeat gestures repeatedly until the work is truly abstract and balanced, I feel like Monet in the suburbs”The title of the show 'Birdland' is a pun on the legendary New York Jazz club where Charlie Parker used to play. - Phil Stallard
