Artist's Statement: The view west of Meadowbank wharf is etched in my mind, this summer I went down there. Homebush bay is now dwarfed by apartment towers, when my boys were little it was different. We used to go there and just look out over the water and mangroves, Silverwater really is silver when the sun hits it. This painting is that memory. The lights of industrial Silverwater through the mangroves, everything drenched in light, the water washes everything, summer is here. When we lived up the hill you could hear the screams of Cockatoos and Galah’s, just like when we lived in Wagstaffe on the Central Coast – the cheeky bird pokes his head in to say hello - Phil Stallard

CHG Director's Statement: Expressive, bursts of energy, strength of colour, and wall power are just some of the adjectives or phrases to describe Phil Stallard’s paintings. His style will refresh any interior with exciting incendiary like bursts of colour and tone! - Mark Widdup.
"There is a "total experience" in a Phil Stallard painting, a similar notion that no part of the painting is bland, or subordinate, or to be passed over. Stallard's work is very painterly indeed. His oil-paint is applied with a fluid lushness, a sensuousness, that recalls 1960’s Brett Whiteley." - Peter Pinson, OAM.
