Artist's Statement: In the days before the Parrammatta River foreshore development, I would catch the ferry to Parrammatta. The river got dirtier, mangroves closed in, but when the ferry turned around and went east the river opens dramatically, you go past Rydalmere and the expanse hits you.
This is a memory of that trip, in my humble Putney garage many years layer I can see it clearly, this memory became the inspiration for Silverwater Light. I now have my kids here, Max plays basketball on the hoop that Lynne bought outside the studio, this time there’s no soundscape music because max is playing Hip Hop loud. This painting is my version of true happiness, painting in luscious oils, the water is so delicious and the riverbend beckons... - Phil Stallard

CHG Director's Statement: Expressive, bursts of energy, strength of colour, and wall power are just some of the adjectives or phrases to describe Phil Stallard’s paintings. His style will refresh any interior with exciting incendiary like bursts of colour and tone! - Mark Widdup.
"There is a "total experience" in a Phil Stallard painting, a similar notion that no part of the painting is bland, or subordinate, or to be passed over. Stallard's work is very painterly indeed. His oil-paint is applied with a fluid lushness, a sensuousness, that recalls 1960’s Brett Whiteley." - Peter Pinson, OAM.
