Yellow Tablecloth with Cornflowers 50/75
Artist Statement: I’ve never liked housework. I get by doing little chores when I feel like them, in between paintings. Who wants to chase dust all their life? You can spend your whole lifetime cleaning the house. I like watching the patina grow. If the house looks dirty, buy another bunch of flowers, is my advice.
Medium: Multi plate etching on paper
Dimensions: 64 x 59 cms
Date: 2007
Condition: Good
CHG Director's Statement: Margaret Olley is one of Australia’s most recognised and loved still-life painters. She drew inspiration from the beauty of everyday objects including arrangements of flowers and fruit, set amid collectables, art and her home environment. She was a major benefactor to public institutions, and sat for two Archibald Prize winning portraits including one by Ben Quilty - who referred to her as 'a friend and great supporter of my work'.
