Artist Statement: As soon as you look at this work a question arises. Why is she in the air? Perhaps a clue can be deduced from a closer inspection. The dress seems a formal affair, perhaps a bridesmaid’s dress or some other formal occasion. Yet the chair she is above is old and worn. Has she stolen a moment to try on a dress she shouldn’t be wearing? Perhaps it’s after some event where she hasn’t come back down to earth yet.
Before she returns to her everyday life? Maybe that’s for you the viewer to decide.

CHG Director's Statement: Andrew has been a practicing artist for more than 25 years, with solo exhibitions in Sydney and Melbourne, with selected works included in collections around the world. Andrew works primarily in acrylics on canvas.

He began university studies in physics 1984, but soon switched to fine arts, majoring in painting and photography at the City Institue of Art (now known as College of Fine Arts, UNSW).
