CHG Director's Statement: John Caldwell is one of Australia's master landscape artists, with more than forty solo exhibitions. Twice selected for the AGNSW Wynne prize, and receiving numerous awards including the Art Gallery of NSW's Trustees Watercolour Prize in 1984 and again in 1987.
Included in Australian collections: AGNSW,Tasmanian Museum & Art Gallery, Artbank, and Holmes à Court collection.

It was said by Giles Auty, Weekend Australian, 26-27 May 2001: “I do not think even his admirers necessarily know what an exceptional and generally unacknowledged artist we have here.”
