Red Dragon
Artist Statement: I began this from a drawing I did in NYC in 2002 and have only just finished the painting. It has been sitting in the studio for many years. The drawing has been in many exhibitions and the problem was to find a way to attempt it in paint.
The drawing was done in St Marks Place before it was ruined by tourist restraints. It was a favourite hang out of punks and rockers with lots of music clubs . This young man went by the name of Red Dragon which he adopted from the Hannibal Lecter Trilogy with Anthony Hopkins. He was willing to pose as he thought I looked like Hannibal or like Anthony Hopkins who was playing the serial murderer. Dragon's piercings were extensive and distorted his facial features - he was
very proud of them and told me that he was into Body Art which he saw
as being as legitimate an art form as my drawing.
