Artist's Statement: These paintings are driven by emotion, I’m saturated in colour, swimming in feeling, I’ve always worn my heart on my sleeve so for this show I’m unashamedly open to what comes on the spur of the moment. Gesture, graffiti, text, circles and hearts repeat as memories of the Hawkesbury River fill my senses with luscious candour. The colour of sandstone, the colour of falling in love, the colour of aching, the colour of loss, it’s all in the mix. In the new works I’ve loosened up, created an abstraction that is a balance between space and gesture.
The paintings are big abstract letters, poems conveying something serene amongst all the action.
Philip Stallard – August 2014
Medium: Oil acrylic on canvas
Dimensions: 183 x 183 cms
CHG Director's Statement: "There is a "total experience" in a Phil Stallard painting, a similar notion that no part of the painting is bland, or subordinate, or to be passed over. Stallard's work is very painterly indeed. His oil-paint is applied with a fluid lushness, a sensuousness, that recalls 1960’s Brett Whiteley.” - Peter Pinson.
Expressive, bursts of energy, strength of colour, and wall power are just some of the adjectives or phrases to describe Phil Stallard’s paintings. His style will refresh any interior with exciting incendiary like bursts of colour and tone!
