CHG Director's Statement: Joseph Goodhart or JC Goodhart was a painter and a pastellist with no formal training as an artist. He worked in oils, watercolours and pastels until he was 50 when he took up etching. JC set up his first press within his fitting shop in Broken Hill and exhibited his etchings at the Paris Salon only two years after adopting the medium. A large number of his works depict mining life around Broken Hill NSW between the 20s and early 30s. He also sketched extensively in Tasmania, recording historical landmark including bridges and buildings.
