CHG Director's Statement:  Greg Hansell's pastel paintings are unique, capturing the subtle tonal qualities or weathering and ageing of man made materials; namely iron, wood, metals. There is a fascination with the deterioration of the material morphing its colour, composition and texture. Recognized as an artist of the realist school of painting, he excels at landscapes using earth pastel which he makes himself.

Hansell is a fellow of the Royal Art Society of NSW and has been a finalist in the Art Gallery NSW Archibald and Wynne prize on numerous occasions, selected twice as a finalist in the Salon de Refuses, and more than 20 times in the Dobell Drawing Award.

Greg Hansell is represented in many public and corporate collections including: Commonwealth Bank, Coles Myer, ANZ Bank , Prime Ministers’, Historic Houses trust, Nepean River County Council, Hawkesbury City Council, Camden City Council, Mervin Horton, University of Western Sydney, New England Regional Art Museum Armidale, and Mosman Regional Art Gallery.
