Artist Statement: In times of darkness and fear which our new norm presents…. The like of which we all thought was relegated to the past, good art has the power to not only lift the spirit, it can also calm the soul. Art, whether music, sculpture or paint can bring calmness and tranquillity in the most challenging of environments.
My art is made with this in mind, to lift the spirit
In ballerina on blue I’ve tried to create a sensation of fragile beauty in the slender girl against a background of lush blues, complimenting the girls colouring and orange tutu. The little yellow trees 'my favourite motive' upper right is drawing all the attention towards the figure in the foreground. She is seemingly lost in her own thoughts. - John Maitland.
