Your Life on a Canvas with Shannon Woodward

Shannon Woodward Artist

WE RECENTLY SAT DOWN WITH SHANNON WOODWARD TO DISCUSS HER ART, LIFE, LOVES AND OTHER THINGS! HERE IS 'YOUR LIFE ON A CANVAS' WITH CHG REPRESENTED ARTIST SHANNON WOODWARD...

Best recent art experience?
I’d have to say Cooks Hill Galleries opening night of exhibition Adam Cullen and the cubists. Thanks to family, friends and Cooks Hill Galleries for your support!

Most used art material?
It would be PVA glue not only use for mixed media but when works are finished I coat them in 4 or 5 layer of the glue, let dry… Gives a great shine, makes the colours pop and also great for the environment.

Favourite colour?
Favourite colour would be red, I feel it’s a colour of empowerment.

Most embarrassing artwork story?
I had to do a speech for an exhibition in Tamworth. I was not prepared thought I’d be ok. But no I froze! It only took that one person to look at me in a weird way. But I’m not going to let it discourage me, just another thing to work on!

What can’t you live without?
My children; James, Ashley, Sara and now grandaughter Millie. They are my best critics as well.

What are you currently working on?
The painting I’m working on now I have changed the colours many times. I like the composition, I just don’t know what it is? I feel I can’t get rid of it! So, it sits there and I keep adding to it.

What do you hate?
Narcissistic people.

Favourite artist or art movement?
Favourite artists of all time - hmmm?
I’d have to say Brett Whiteley, Marcel Duchamp and anyone from the cubists movement. I’ve been looking at Jackson Pollock's earlier work before his drip technique.

Your biggest art influence?
Again Marcel Duchamp, Norman Lindsay, Kline etc.
So many artists I love!

If you could have one painting on your wall, what would it be?
One of Brett Whiteley’s. If I had the wall space ‘Alchemy’.

Favourite music album?
Album is called Autobiography of Supertramp.

Favourite quote?
I have a few, written around the studio wall!
When the doors of perception are cleansed things will appear as they truly are… Jim Morrison.
It doesn’t matter how the paint is put on as long as something is said... Jackson Pollock.

What one piece of advice would you give your younger self
