Time spent on Parramatta Lake

Phil Stallard

30350

Artist's Statement: Over the summer of 2018 I went with my son to Parramatta Lake, he and his mates have a crazy obsession to jump of the rocks into the water of the Lake. Quite unexpectedly these excursions became the inspiration for this painting. I had been struggling with it for 6 months, one night after hosing the underpainting off with a garden hose (couldn’t do this in my Pyrmont studio!) I had the idea to paint that memory, the instant he hit the water, its an abstracted landscape – the water is so succulent, the excitement of jumping off the rocks
imbued in the water....- Phil Stallard

CHG Director's Statement: Expressive, bursts of energy, strength of colour, and wall power are just some of the adjectives or phrases to describe Phil Stallard’s paintings. His style will refresh any interior with exciting incendiary like bursts of colour and tone! - Mark Widdup.

"There is a "total experience" in a Phil Stallard painting, a similar notion that no part of the painting is bland, or subordinate, or to be passed over. Stallard's work is very painterly indeed. His oil-paint is applied with a fluid lushness, a sensuousness, that recalls 1960’s Brett Whiteley." - Peter Pinson, OAM.
